Why interim management?
There is an increasing need by schools for fundraising interim management. The turnover in the profession is notoriously high and there is a severe shortage of experienced Development Directors to implement programmes which are appropriate for a range of different schools.Equally, some schools cannot afford, nor do they require, full time development management. However, Heads are becoming increasingly aware of the need and importance of having an effective development office.
The need may arise when an unexpected resignation, extended illness or maternity leave occurs, which stretches existing resources and severely impacts on an area that requires specialist expertise. Alternatively, a re-structure, or the urgency to complete a special project, may require management skills that cannot be provided by existing staff.
Whether to fill a short term gap, or provide high level management support for on-going projects, undertaking an interim management arrangement provides an experienced Development Director to assume responsibility during critical periods. It will give you instant access to a highly experienced development professional who can join your management team to provide on-going and constructive solutions. Ian will not only act as a mentor but will personally ensure that your development activity is managed effectively. Moreover, Ian will guarantee that a valuable transfer of knowledge takes place so that your permanent team are equipped for long term development activity.
Typically an interim engagement could occupy a 1 to 12 month term; joining for days, weeks or months at a time, or with a regular commitment each month. During this period Ian may play an active role in documenting the position and assisting in the recruitment of a permanent replacement.
Interim management may include guiding, leading or advising on the following:
“Ian played a key role in the success of the 50th anniversary of LAS. These events helped the school reconnect with the alumni who are now playing an increasingly important role in school development. Based on his experience, he is uniquely placed in providing excellent management services for fundraising and development programs.”
