Development in Schools: Expect the Unexpected
With the right approach, we often plan our school development programmes following the theory or blueprint of best practice and yet we don’t know quite how it will work out. We might have our own fundraising goals or even targets set by the hierarchy, realistic or not, but one thing is for certain over time, we should expect the unexpected.
Working with one school in the UK over the past two years, there has often been frustration at a lack of support from some areas and certainly a belief that the Bequest programme should be a low priority because it is a long term strategy!
Well …. it might be a long term strategy, agreed – but it should certainly not be a low priority! In the last couple of weeks a surprise call from a solicitor was received at the school to say that it had been left a significant sum in someone’s Will – an amount in excess of £250,000! A transformational gift and a surprise to all – and one that restores faith in the Development process.
