No Culture of Giving (or Asking) but we went for it…
During the week, working with a particular school, I coordinated a small event in London to launch the school’s development plan to a cross-section of the school community.
There had been very little fundraising undertaken over the past 20 years; the last ‘appeal’ being managed by a firm with little involvement of volunteers and not successful!
The host of the event welcomed, explained and then put his mark down by committing funds and immediately invited others to join him at the same level. The result was the chairman of governors and the headmaster followed suit and within minutes, another six individuals joined, inspired by the enthusiasm and commitment of the leadership group.
It was brilliant and has now provided leverage; the ball is rolling for the school to be a little more aggressive with its fundraising. It was a great response in support of a passionate leader who believes in the school and wants to make a difference!
