Having a Good Impact on the Quality of the Profession

Having an impact on the quality of the profession

Over the past 2 years, through my involvement with schools, advising and helping recruit and appoint key Development staff, it has been rewarding to see a change in the calibre of those entering the profession.

As schools began to start Development, there was a level of uncertainty about the role, the expectations and who to appoint to do the job and now as the profession matures and schools are learning (or being advised correctly), we are seeing a different approach towards Development appointments. Schools are still coming to grips with setting realistic expectations for the Development Office and this varies amongst schools, but it is satisfying to be part of the change to guide them in a more professional approach.

On 20 May at Westonbirt School, I will be part of a seminar (through Ease Training) looking at issues for Heads and Governors and my session will discuss the great potential that schools have at their resource with fundraising, if done correctly.
