Recruiting Development Directors
Having just completed the process of recruiting staff to establish and lead development in two schools in the UK that are just starting the journey, it has been a pleasure to work with the enthusiasm of Heads and governors, keen to ensure the function is treated seriously and regarded as a vital component of the school administration. I do believe the tide is turning!
The quality of applicants for these positions was also an indication that the profession is way ahead of where we were 5 or 10 years ago. Skills gained from experience in other sectors are transferable to the education sector, with some adjusting, but the profession is lifting its game.
There are not large numbers of experienced school development directors out there and in some cases, schools in the past have not treated the development appointment and the commitment to it, with the level of seriousness they should. So guidance is still required, however I have been impressed over recent weeks and remain certain that where there is a commitment by the school’s leadership, success will follow!
