School Development Management – the viable option!
Not every independent school, international school or state school can afford the luxury of a fully staffed development office and a development director; a senior management salary for someone expected to raise the sums of money needed to make a major difference! Nor do they have a constituency ready and willing and able to give at significant levels. All schools can improve in many areas but are often restricted by a lack of funds. A development office and the activity that goes with it, can be a reality on a different scale without the high up-front costs!
My experience of providing regular independent development management and a realistic ‘road map’ is proving to be a viable and cost effective option for schools wanting the knowledge & experience to embark on development in a professional manner. One map does not fit all and I am fortunate to have had the variety of experience with different schools, to be now providing interim or long term management, designed to suit each school’s needs and level of maturity!
From the beginning . . . .
Over the past few years I have been writing regular articles for BIS magazine (British International Schools) on Development & Fundraising. These have now been collated into an on-line volume covering all aspects of development in schools. While written for British international schools, the content is particularly relevant for UK independent schools.
